Mission
The mission of the UCR Chicanx/Latinx Faculty & Staff Colectivo is to foster connection, belonging, and empowerment among Chicanx/Latinx faculty and staff across campus. Grounded in our lived experiences and a commitment to one another, we celebrate our cultures, support one another’s growth, and engage in thoughtful advocacy to advance meaningful change and contribute to a stronger, more vibrant UCR.
Vision
We envision a UCR where Chicanx/Latinx faculty and staff feel connected, safe, visible, and valued; where our cultures, identities, contributions, and lived experiences are recognized; and where members of our community have meaningful opportunities to grow, lead, and thrive.
Values
Community & Connection
We cultivate belonging and a sense of familia by building relationships across departments, schools, colleges, central units, and roles; creating welcoming, affirming, and safer spaces for mutual support and shared experiences; and celebrating the cultures and communities that connect us.
Empowerment
We strengthen individual and collective capacity by expanding access to knowledge, mentorship, professional development, leadership opportunities, resources, and networks that support growth and advancement.
Advocacy
We listen to and elevate community-identified needs, perspectives, and contributions. When advocacy is needed, we engage thoughtfully and strategically with institutional and community partners to advance equity, inclusion, safety, opportunity, and the well-being of Chicanx/Latinx faculty, staff, and students.
Our Community
El Colectivo recognizes that there is no single Chicanx/Latinx identity or experience. We understand our community broadly to include people with roots or heritage in Latin American countries and their diasporas, across national origins, races, cultures, languages, immigration histories, and mixed, biracial, and multiracial identities.
We honor the many ways people name and understand their own identities and do not expect any one term, nationality, culture, or experience to define our community.
Our Roots
El Colectivo builds on generations of Chicanx/Latinx organizing and community-building at UCR. We honor the people, organizations, and founding initiatives that created space for our community before us, and we carry that legacy forward into the next chapter of faculty and staff connection and leadership at UCR.
Leadership / Organizational Structure
El Colectivo is moving forward with a proposed inaugural Mesa Directiva (Steering Committee) that includes:
- Faculty Co-Chair
- Staff Co-Chair
- Director of Administration & Operations
- Director of Communications & Membership
- Director of Community & Belonging
- Director of Professional Growth & Mentorship
- Director of Campus & Community Partnerships
- A representative from the Latina/Chicana Staff & Faculty Group (LCSFG)
- A temporary, non-voting Founding Advisor during the inaugural transition
- Non-voting liaisons from key campus partners, as appropriate
We anticipate opening nominations shortly and holding elections before winter break, with the inaugural Mesa Directiva beginning in January 2027. Because this will be our first elected board, January–June 2027 will serve as an inaugural pilot period so the Mesa Directiva can assess and refine the structure before formal bylaws are established. We can provide elected leader names and contact information once that process is complete.
