Riverside Underground Scholars (RUS) AY '22-'23 Recap

Fall brought opportunities to foster connections, such as hosting a get-to-know-your-underground scholar, organizing a DOR workshop, and facilitating a Public Safety Town Hall.

Developed in partnership with Riverside City College and Cal State San Bernardino our first annual Reentry Conference, titled Supporting Successful Reentry Conference: Creating Opportunities for Education and Rehabilitation in the Inland Empire

Collaborating with Guardian Scholars, we held a Foster Youth LASUD event with a student panel. Additionally, we participated in the Ambassador Program/Transfer Program year-round, offering personal tours for formerly incarcerated students.

Engaging with the community, we attended Southern California Community College transfer fairs and resource fairs at LACC, COD, RCC, SBV, Santa Ana, and Orange Coast College.

Our commitment extended to attending all Riverside, Indio, and San Bernardino PACT meetings, presenting at YTEC Juvenile Hall and Indio Juvenile Hall and conducting a Political Education Presentation at Mt. Sac Rising Scholars.

We reached out to various institutions, including presenting at COD Formerly Incarcerated Student Panel, conducting a Transfer Empowerment Workshop at RCC, and providing year-round outreach at RCC, Norco, MSJC, COD, SBVCC, VVCC, MVC, Chaffey, and Mt San Antonio.

Contributing to the community, we assisted in starting the UCR Prison program and organized the Riverside Underground Scholars Summer Bridge Program.

Acknowledging basic needs, we provided stipends for students, including rental assistance and dental care. Additionally, we established a partnership with the Law Offices of the Riverside Public Defender.
