  • UCR Grads Helping Riverside and Studying Auschwitz
    Research by UC Riverside graduate students will help Riverside complete an application to the National Register of Historic Places for a thematic district of sites significant in the history of Japanese Americans in Riverside.

    Jennifer Weed, a Ph.D. student at UCR, is one of 10 graduate students selected nationally to study the Auschwitz concentration camp, Poland's Jewish heritage and the implications of the Holocaust. Read More »
  • UCR Business School Grads to Study China
    Seventeen University of California business school graduates will receive diplomas today then immediately undertake an educational experience of a different kind.

    The students will receive undergraduate degrees from the UCR School of Business Administration. They'll go almost directly to the airport for a weeklong trip to China to participate in an inaugural program that will introduce UCR students to that country's economy. Read More »

    Lots of college students work in dining halls to make money during school, but few have the same impact as UC Riverside senior Moses Preciado, one of six regional finalists in the National Association of College and University Food Services Student Employee of the Year award. Read More »
  • Chancellor White's Friday Letter of May 20, 2011
    Sharon Higgins was struck and killed by a big rig while standing outside her car on the shoulder of a Southern California freeway early Tuesday. This wonderful human being and student – the first in her family to go to college – was a third year dance major and African American Studies minor, a talented artist, and an active member of Afrikan Student Alliance and 909 Dance Troupe.

    Plans for a funeral/memorial service to be held in Oakland, California, are underway and details will be shared as they become available.   • UC Riverside Banner Arrives in Japan
    A banner signed by hundreds at the University of California, Riverside following the earthquake and tsunami in Japan arrived late last week in Sendai, Japan, one of Riverside’s sister cities.

    After the earthquake and tsunami, UC Riverside’s Office of International Education sponsored a week-long banner signing on campus. They also raised $4,700 of the $500,000 that a group of officials from Riverside brought to Sendai with the banner. Read More »
  • Devises a Successful Latino Graduation Strategy
    The University of California (US) - Riverside, a large institution with 20,746 undergraduates that is 35 percent Latino, takes graduating Hispanics very seriously. It relies on several success strategies, including first-year learning communities, creating Hispanic academic programs, developing an early-warning academic alert and using data to retain and graduate larger number of Latino students than the norm.   • Engineering Students Win International Environmental Design Contest
    A team of University of California, Riverside Bourns College of Engineering students placed first last week at an international environmental design competition for a system they created to clean hard, brackish water for municipal water districts.
  • Students Win Fulbright Grants
    Four students have been awarded prestigious Fulbright awards for international study and research: Alicia Bolton, anthropology, “Brazil’s Invisible Children”; Sarah Grant, anthropology, “Manufacturing Quality: Vietnam in the Global Coffee Industry”; Kelly Meister, theology/religion, “Education, Death and the End of the World: How the Abhidhamma Shapess and Is Shaped by Buddhist Practice in Thailand”; and Jacob Rekedal, Ph.D. ethnomusicology, “Mapuche Culture and Performance, and the Politics of Representation in Chile.”
  • UCR Students Headed to San Diego Conference
    Thirteen UC Riverside students will be participating in the fourth annual Clinton Global initiative University at UC San Diego starting this Friday through Sunday. The program is aimed at challenging students to engage in global problems with practical and innovation solutions. More Information »

    A report published by Education Trust found that University of California, Riverside is one of top public universities to have a higher graduation rates for Hispanics and African Americans. More Information »
